Pixelated F-Stops: Chapel in the Hills

This week is the 66th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. So in direct contrast to the roar and rumble of the various bikes, trikes and metal machines, I'm offering a few more quiet shots from the Chapel in the Hills. The morning I took all of these pictures was the start of a PERFECT spring day. It was sunny and warm with scattered puffs of billowy clouds dotting the sky. Even the birds, who are normally absent from much of Rapid City, were taking advantage of the quiet surrounding trees and grounds at CitH. All it in all it was one of my most enjoyable trips to the Chapel.

The heavy timber used in the construction of the Chapel is evident in these balustrades, as each one is a single piece of redwood. And since the Chapel is almost completely constructed of that particular timber there is a distinct cedar smell in the air. (Which I find very nice)

I really like the strong contrast of this picture, I'm sure that to any professional it looks like complete junk...but I like it and that's what counts. Not much else to say here, you can see one arch of a Medieval Gothic Clover or trefoil, the three "petals" represent the Holy Trinity and is prevalent in church architecture to this day. (That of course, also constitutes your random factoid of the day. Brought to you by the letters "z", "q" and the number "7". I'd also like to say the Wikipedia is awesome and that I wish my History of Interiors and Architecture Classes had been that concise...well maybe not, but then I'm a huge nerd that way.)
